The AMP NETCONNECT Business Unit of Tyco Electronics has developed the Hi-D (High-Density) cable management system for data centres. This new system can increase patch densities by, on average, 30% with improved cable management and access compared to traditional techniques.

Are you passing the ‘green buck’

Bell Micro has launched independent research findings which point to the critical role that senior executives must play in both the introduction, and subsequent roll out, of successful green IT policies. The report, entitled ‘Passing The Green IT Buck’, reveals the shocking reality that 79% of UK companies have failed to adopt a formal policy and a staggering 91% have failed to apportion specific budget to green IT issues.

University challenged

Oxford University is pioneering an energy saving research project for green computing, which is likely to have wide-reaching benefits for further and higher educational institutions across the UK. Oxford researchers are aiming to develop software which is easy to download and free of charge, to make networked computers more energy-efficient and thereby reduce carbon emissions.
