Aperture has launched the first complete suite of products for Data Center Service Management (DCSM). The Aperture Data Center Solution combines VISTA Data Center Configuration Management, VISTA Infrastructure Process Management, VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring, and VISTA Capacity Management.
DCSM is a new discipline that ensures the data centre is managed holistically using best-practice processes that span the IT and Facilities teams. It extends the principles of IT Service Management (ITSM), a framework for managing IT services from a business rather than technical perspective, into the data centre infrastructure. ITSM is often implemented using the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL). DCSM brings the management of space, power and cooling into the ITSM framework and applies ITSM (and ITIL) principles – such as configuration management, change management and capacity management – to the physical resources of the data centre. Introducing DCSM enables data centres to move from focusing on technology, towards focusing on business services; and from ‘reactive fire-fighting’ towards proactive planning and management. It replaces conflicting priorities between IT and Facilities with shared processes and systems.
