High density cabling solutions

The AMP NETCONNECT Business Unit of Tyco Electronics has developed the Hi-D (High-Density) cable management system for data centres.

This new system can increase patch densities by, on average, 30% with improved cable management and access compared to traditional techniques.

The new Hi-D cable management system addresses the challenge of how data-centre and building distributor capacity can be grown without increasing costly real estate space. In particular, increasing the port density while maintaining, or decreasing, the required floor space requires a different design approach to traditional cable management systems.

The current design restriction for port capacity on a 42-unit cabinet is 480 ports, while providing a minimum cable management provision of one per third cabinet unit. The Hi-D cable management system can increase capacity by up to 1020 ports per frame.
The heart of this innovative system is the recessed angled 19-inch patch panel and Hi-D corner bracket that guides the patch cords from the front of the panel into the 6- or 12-inch side ducts in a controlled way eliminating the need for horizontal cable management bars.
