Recently, workmen sliced through over 200 Yards of fibre optic cable whilst working on the re-development of East London and the Docklands area, which is the heart of the UK's telecommunications industry. Traversing around the area are hundreds of kilometres of fibre optic cable that deliver voice and data services to thousands of businesses and millions of homes across London and the UK.

This resulted in over 7 hours downtime for customers of some of the biggest voice and data providers, and affected businesses both inside and outside of the major data centres.

C4L (previously called ‘Connexions 4 London’) has fibre optic cables that were affected, but were able to route customers onto other sections of their purpose-built 10 gig ring, enabling a smooth continuation of trade for their clients with their redundant service.

Managing director Matt Hawkins stated ‘Because it is difficult to plan for unforeseen circumstances, we recommend redundant packages to clients who rely particularly on uninterrupted connectivity, such as online gaming companies and stockbrokers.

With our customers utilizing our 10 gig resilient network, the failover protocols redirected their traffic within milliseconds, whilst those without this infrastructure suffered up to 7 hours of downtime. From as little as £120 a month a company can receive a redundant package, which can save £millions in lost revenue.’
