Easynet has taken a series of initiatives across Europe to expand its data centre capacity for customers whilst retaining its focus on the environment. These initiatives include the opening of its first Energy Centre, a carbon neutral data centre in the Netherlands. The Energy Centre has been carefully designed to ensure maximum efficiency for power usage, and to maximise data centre space for customers. The hardware used in the data centre has been specifically selected to require less cooling. The data centre will adopt ‘free cooling’ techniques, using outside air to cool the equipment inside, further improving the Power Usage Efficiency rating during the winter months.
In the UK, Easynet has deployed managed data centre operations within the Equinix London-Slough (LD4) Internet Business Exchange (IBX) centre, providing a foundation for many of its international managed hosting solutions. Similar to the Energy Centre in the Netherlands, the data centre in Slough has been carefully designed by Equinix to lower energy consumption and to minimise environmental impact.
