Active Power has received an order from Star Technology Services for its modular containerised PowerHouse solution. One of the largest independent business to business (Internet service providers) in the United Kingdom, Star will install PowerHouse to provide its new mission critical data centre with energy efficient and reliable critical power protection. The power protection equipment is due to site by end of the year with the new facility expected to go live in spring 2009. |

COPAN Systems has announced results from a new survey conducted to better understand how companies are managing and storing persistent data – the non-changing static data that makes up the majority of stored corporate data. With a respondent base of over 250 IT professionals at Fortune 1000 companies, government and academic institutions around the world, the survey indicates that IT departments are not managing their persistent data effectively and are not fully educated about the environmental and economical impact of their current storage decisions. |

HP has signed a definitive agreement to acquire LeftHand Networks.
LeftHand Networks' solutions enable midsize companies and remote offices or branches of large corporations to easily and cost-effectively protect critical business data. HP has agreed to purchase LeftHand Networks for $360 million in cash, subject to certain purchase price adjustments.

Survey completed on data centre decisions |

Sentrum has released the findings from an independent research report that shows what companies regard as most important when it comes to making decisions about data centre expansion or consolidation. The number of sites (36%), location (32%), timescales (27%) and proximity to fibre (26%) were the four most commonly considered factors. Availability of power and real estate market conditions were surprisingly lower at just 16%.

De-duplication comes to the fore |

Research by Storage Expo has found that 62% of companies use de-duplication to increase efficiency, reduce storage requirements and also costs. A further 27% intended to implement de-duplication technology within the next 12 months. At the other end of the spectrum 4% do not intend to join the bandwagon and 6% claimed that De-duplication was not delivering what they expected. |
